"Shattered Ice Study" - Gooding Little City of Rocks
I think this images deserves an explanation. When I encountered this
scene, it was a thin layer of textured ice suspended across the canyon
bottom. I first took an image looking at this ice from the other
side and before the ice shattered.
After taking this initial photograph I carefully walked around the
ice to take a photograph from the other side. As I was doing this I
knocked a very tiny pebble of rock onto the ice, and the ice shattered!
It sounded like a shotgun blast.
I found the shattered ice magical, but the overall photograph seemed
flat and uninteresting. As I struggled with what to do, I came up
with the idea of 'removing' everything but the ice. After spending a
lot of time masking out the stone, the result is this mysterious image.
