This photograph was taken at sunrise, after spending my first night camping nearby. I had brought enough water to spend one night, and I was pleased to see that there was plenty of water ... the 2nd night I even camped right next to a really nice pool, which I have a photograph of simply titled "Red Breaks". This striking carved sandstone feature is big ... about a football field wide! Somehow someone began calling this strange rock feature the Cosmic Ashtray, and despite several people's objection to the nickname it seems to persist to this day. When I first arrived the wind was pretty strong and persistent, and trying to photograph this feature with late light was difficult to do. I took the video below just to give people a better idea of the area around, and to just give a taste of how tiresome the wind can become.
