Because of the full 360 degree view of this image, it captures both the first rays of sunrise AND the first light on the cliffs 'behind'. It inclines me to think that in a certain way this is the first 'true' photograph of a desert sunrise I have taken. This is a view from the trailhead for the hike into the canyon from the Maze Overlook, with not only the view of the canyons, but also up towards the Island in the Sky section of the Maze.
