My travels in north Pakistan are among the most important experiences I have had travelling the world. This sunset on Rakaposhi, looking across the Gilgit River gorge, is perhaps the most dramatic mountain scene I have ever seen. I can understand why it has been speculated that the town of Karimabad was the inspiration for the name Shangri-La.
