The Bisti Badlands has some of the most fascinating and photogenic collections of carved stone I have ever seen. It is a natural wonderland to wander in, encountering things that seem to be from another world.

I chose to travel there in May of 2012, with the intention of photographing a total solar eclipse. I took this photograph just after the eclipse ended and the last light of the day painted this amazing scene. This stone stood on its pedestal over 10 feet high.
